Preference costs & linking costs to amenities
How to set up cost items that apply when a guest books a specific object or a specific amenity.
Preference cost for booked object
A preference cost can be set up to charge a fee when a guest selects a specific object instead of a type.
More about guests selecting specific objects online: Booking on the map
Required settings for correct application:
Select 'Preference costs' as the kind of cost. This ensures correct application by channels.
Set the selectability to 'mandatory'. This ensures the fee is always charged when needed.
In the price section, use the 'per stay' calculation method. Like other costs, it is optional to add a future (different) price.
In the validity section, check the box 'Valid when choosing specific object'. This connects the trigger for the cost, i.e. the act of selecting a specific object in the booking portal or the 'preference booking' option when creating a booking through the back office.
Like other costs, it is optional to have the preference cost apply seasonally by selecting 'Valid for specific period'.
Preference cost for booked amenity
A preference cost can be set up to charge a fee when a guest selects a specific amenity, which is not present in all objects of the booked type by default. For example a sauna, or a waterfront amenity.

Always charge cost for specific amenities
Is is also possible to set up a cost to charge a fee whenever an object with a specific amenity is booked, regardless of whether the guest has actively selected this amenity.
This way, you can charge an additional fee when an object has a certain amenity, regardless of which type it belongs to, whether other objects of the type also have this amenity, or which price list is applicable.
You do this by creating a cost, and linking it to an amenity. Required settings for correct application:
Select 'Preference costs' as the kind of cost. This ensures correct application by channels.

In the price section, use the 'per stay' calculation method. Like other costs, it is optional to add a future (different) price.
In the validity section, select 'Yes' for the question 'Does the cost apply to reservations with specific amenities?'. Then, choose one or more amenities from the dropdown. This ensures that the cost is applied every time a reservation is placed on an object with one of these amenities.
Like other costs, it is optional to have this cost apply seasonally by selecting 'Valid for specific period'.
