Creating a discount

There are two general discount types that can be created. One uses a fixed discount amount, the other discounts a percentage of the rent. Using various parameters you determine when, where, and on which reservations this discount can be applied.

A discount must be linked to a discount campaign. If there isn’t a suitable one, create a discount campaign first.

Go to the 'Setup' module and click 'Discounts' in the right-hand menu. Use the '+New' button to create a new discount, or open an existing discount to edit it.

General settings

  • Select the right discount campaign from the dropdown, or use the 'New' button next to it to quickly create a new discount campaign.

  • Choose the type of discount you want to offer, and enter the desired percentage/amount.

  • Optionally, you can specify a minimum and maximum number of nights a reservation must have to qualify for this discount.

  • If you want the discount to function as an early bird or last-minute discount, you can also specify a minimum or maximum number of days between confirmation and check-in. Only reservations that match these requirements will be eligible for the discount.

  • Check the 'counts as rent' box if you want any applicable commission and owner settlement calculations to be based on the discounted price. Leaving it unchecked means that any commission and owner settlement calculations will be based on the original, full price.

  • By default, the discount amount will be recorded in the same ledger account as your rental revenue. It is possible to select a specific, deviating ledger account; which may be useful if you want to track the total monetary amount of discounts applied.

A discount percentage is calculated based on the base rent only. Any costs that are marked 'counts as rent' are not included.

Coupons

Optionally, you can create one or more coupon codes to trigger this discount when it is entered during booking. Check the box to allow this coupon code discount to be combined with other discounts.

Period

This is where you determine when the discount is available to be applied during booking, and to which reservation dates it can be applied. For both, you select a pre-set period group or quickly create a new one with the button to the right.

Applicability for guest group, types, or channels

You can further narrow down the target group of the discount by specifying it can only be applied to bookings that meet certain requirements. The default is that the discount applies to all guest groups, all types, and all channels.

Select specific types, or quick select entire segments, to ensure the discount is only valid for bungalows for example, not your other accommodations.
Select specific channels to create a discount that can be used by a specific OTA, or only on your own website, for example.
